Archival material are records, either original or reproduced (written, drawn, printed, photographed, recorded on magnetic or optical media, or reproduced in some other way), which were received or created along with the work of legal and natural persons, and are of permanent significance for science and culture
The Archives keeps:

records created by state administrative authorities and other national bodies, records of former state and autonomous bodies at a provincial level or similar higher level, the headquarters of which were located in the territory of present-day Slovenia and which covered their respective territories by means of administrative and judiciary systems (from the 15th century onwards);

records produced by authorities, organisations and associations operating in the spheres of economics, banking, health care and social security, education, and culture and science, which, according to the laws in force at the time of their creation, were active in the territory of present-day Slovenia or within the boundaries of its former provinces (from the 16th century onwards);

historically important manorial, family and personal records (from the 13th century onwards);

collections of charters (from the 12th century onwards), manuscripts (from the 9th century onwards), land registers and cadasters (from the 18th century onwards), plans (from the 18th century onwards), etc.
Slovene Film Archives keeps Slovene documentary films, cartoons and feature films. Its collection is comprised of numerous films from 1905 (when the oldest Slovene film was made) onwards. More than 90 % of all Slovene films or 5,100 titles are preserved.
As of the end of 2004 the holdings of the Archives include: 1809 archival fonds and collections, spanning from the 9th century until the present day, comprised of 16,356 metres of paper records, 5,651 film titles, 909 video titles (1,214 pieces), 3,745 microfilm reels, 8,311 microfiches and 26 tapes of microfiches, 157,859 photographs, 22,494 recordings (of which 591 are soundrecordings) and miscellaneous records (charters, diplomas, cadastral registers, charts, maps, cassettes, floppy disks, etc.). The holdings are stored on 24,980 metres of shelves, in 187 chests of drawers, 158 steel cabinets, 148 file cabinets, etc. |
