Presentation of the earliest known depiction of the Lithuanian capital
As part of the celebration of the Lithuanian national holiday – The Day of Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania – which is to take place at the Grand Hotel Union on February 16, 2012, the Archives of the Republic in Slovenia in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania will present the so-called “Bohemian road-map”. The parchment fragment of the medieval manuscript map brings the earliest known depiction of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius (vilna).
Fragment size 36,5 x 10,5 cm was made between 1380 and 1390. The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia keeps it among its Collection of the Museum Society of Carniola, Museum Society of Slovenia and Historical Society of Carniola (reference code SI AS 1080), box/fasc. 1/1.
